If you are anything like me, your bullet journal (or bujo) is your companion. It helps you get through the day and prepare for tomorrow. You can log your present and save it for the past. And above all, it helps you collect your brain and keep you together. Perhaps your journal is bare-bones, with a simple setup. Perhaps, like me, you’ve gone a bit wild with the bullet journal doodles, borders, and other delightful riffraff.
What is a Bullet Journal Spread?
A spread is often said to describe the pages in a bullet journal. Most people tend to refer to two pages side by side as a spread. You often see monthlies and collections referred to as two page spreads because they sprawl across two pages.
What is a Bullet Journal Collection?
A collection is a category page in your bullet journal that covers a specific problem or topic. This can take the form of a tracker, log, or simply a list. Collections allow you to better organize your bullet journal without worrying about it getting too disorganized and scattered.
New To Bullet Journaling?
If you’re new bullet journaling, you should check outmy Ultimate Bullet Journal Guide. This guide has everything you need to know before jumping into your first bullet journal! You don’t want to miss out on this incredible resource.
Finding Ideas and Inspiration
One thing is for sure: the strength of the bullet journal is the ability to adapt to each person’s individual situation, and the key to utilizing this is to experiment. Trying new things is a good exercise for your mind, and it can help you unlock your bullet journal’s fullest potential.
The problem is it can be incredibly difficult to come up with what to include in your bullet journal. There are just so many options!
Basic Pages
These are the pages that you are going to find in pretty much anyone's bullet journal.
An Index
A bullet journal index page is one of the main pages you keep in your bullet journal. An index is a place for you to record any new pages that you add to your bullet journal so you can easily find them later, almost like a table of contents. Your index is an extremely handy productivity tool that you should definitely try!
A Key
A bullet journal key is simply a convenient place for you to keep track of what all of the various symbols you use in your bullet journal mean. The key is typically one of the very first pages in your bullet journal, so you can easily reference it at any time if you forget what a specific symbol means.
Daily Spread
The heart of the basic bullet journal is the daily log. In your daily spreads, you write down all the little daily tasks that you need to accomplish, appointments, events, notes, and ideas. The engine of the bullet journal system is fueled by the work done in the dailies.
Weekly Spread
Personally, I've always preferred weekly spreads to daily journal setups. Dailies can work great, but by using a weekly bullet journal spread I am able to spend a bit of time at the beginning of each week coming up with a schedule for the week and not have to worry about finding time every day to set up.
I recommend trying to include more than just your to-do list in your weeklies. This is a great place to include a sleep tracker, monitor your water intake, or keep track of your fitness goals.
Monthly Spread
If you bullet journal, it’s likely that you already keep a form of a spread/list/calendar for each month. I added it here, though, because there are many different varieties that exist and you shouldn’t feel restricted to only one kind.
For me,I rock the calendar stylebecause I like seeing the traditional layout with all the weeks in neat little rows rather than the bullet journal layout by Ryder Carroll.
You should experiment until you find the setup that best fits your own needs.
Future Log
A future log is a place for you to add all of your future monthly calendar and yearly commitments in one place. A future log allows you to plan for those tasks that are too far away for you to easily put into your daily, weekly, or monthly tasks.
Productivity Page Ideas
First and foremost the bullet journal is a productivity tool. These ideas will help you get the most out of your journal and be as productive as possible.
Habit Tracker
Keeping ahabit trackerhas been phenomenal for building positive habits and breaking down bad habits. I am able to monitor the time between habits and keep an honest account of my growth.
Some months I don’t do very well with exercise, meditating, drinking water, etc., so I’m able to see a downtrend and work extra hard to make the next month better.
You can also use this tracker to help you avoid bad habits by including things like: didn't use Facebook, avoided soda, etc.
Mind Map
If you are struggling to figure out a problem or brainstorm your next project, give a mind map a try! A mind may is a simple bullet journal idea that helps you visualize the goals and all the tasks you are trying to accomplish.
Brain Dump
It’s great to set all your tasks to certain deadlines, such as by the end of today, tomorrow, next week, or next month. But where do you put a task with no particular deadline? Enter thebrain dump page.
This is a place to store all of your oddball tasks that generally need to be done, but with no specific timeline. It’s great for things like adding decor to your home, cleaning out a closet, beating the rug, or other miscellaneous stuff. My only caveat would be to remind yourself in your monthly spread or set up the spread near the end of your journal so you can avoid forgetting about it.
The List of 100
This listis really a personal favorite of mine. It is THE way to brainstorm!
Master Plan
This extra collection is a great way for you tobreak down your big goalsinto meaningful, bite sized pieces!
The Undo List
We've all heard of keeping a to-do list, but what about an undo list? This page is a great way to start breaking bad habits, today.
Why Statement
Motivation is hard to come by. It can strike in an instant, like a lightning bolt, and it can leave you stranded in the middle of a huge undertaking just as fast. It's frustrating! I have been trying to figure out how to find motivation that sticks around, and I've tried just about everything. Thankfully, there is something that can do the job - and that, my friend, is a why statement.
Theme Your Week
If you struggle to focus, theming your week may be a great alternative to a traditional daily spread.
Goals and Rewards
Mygoals and rewards spreadhas become one of my favorite motivation tools. I set a measurable, achievable goal and a reward if I hit my mark. Knowing that a guilt-free lipstick is waiting for me at the end of a string of good behavior really helps me push through and promote good habits.
The bullet journal is the perfect place to keep your goals and rewards, and you can draw up new spreads as you grow and change. You should give it a try and see how it can help push you toward better habits!
Your "Ideal" Schedule
If you could, how would you rearrange your day? Would you get rid of certain aspects of your job? Would you add your favorite hobbies or pastimes? I want you to imagine what a day in your dream life looks like for a moment. Then I want you to write it down! Creating an ideal schedule for yourself is a fun and powerful exercise to help you focus on your goals and find the drive to achieve them.

Affirmation Log
Sometimes it's hard not to focus on the negatives in life. An affirmations log is similar to a gratitude log, but with one small difference, it's all about you.
In a gratitude log, you may write something like "my boss congratulated me on a job well done." Whereas, in an affirmation log you may write "I am really good at my job." It's a subtle shift, but it can work wonders for your confidence.
I love feeling out this log as part of my morning routine because it helps me start my day with a positive attitude.

Self-Care Page Ideas
These are some of my favorite self-care collections and spreads.
A Self Care Alphabet
I first came across the concept of a self-care alphabet on Pinterest, and I had to make a version of it for myself. There are so many ways to go about this, but I knew that in order to make it work for me, I had to add a time component. The biggest excuse I use for sacrificing self-care is that it takes up too much time. I need to avoid falling into that trap, so when I made my self-care alphabet, I made sure that every task or activity I included could be completed in 30 minutes or less.
It seemed daunting at first, but once I got started, I had no problem coming up with 26 quick and easy things I could do on a regular basis to show myself a little more love. Some of the things on my list take less than five minutes total, but every single one of them makes me happier.
Plan a DIY Spa Day
Everyone deserves a bit of self-care! This bullet journal page idea allows you to take easily plan your perfect spa day. This spread is great because you can easily revisit over and over again when you need a day off.
I Need List
I put a lot of thought into it and realized that when I’m feeling overwhelmed or stressed, it’s typically for one of a handful of reasons. Either I’m tired and need of a break, I’m lonely, I’m feeling physically unwell, or I’m not making enough time for things that I love.
For this page, I divided my self-care activities up based on the “need” that they fill–rest and relaxation, companionship, health, or expression. For example, nothing makes me feel more relaxed than taking a nice, hot bath. It gives me 20 minutes all to myself, which is the perfect amount of time to decompress a little. Thus, “taking a hot bath” is right at the top of my list when I need some R&R.
