With the sudden rise in popularity of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure anime and manga series, a lot of fans are interested in learning details about its characters. Who would not forget the distinctive artwork of this series, how smart and overpowered some characters are, regardless if they are an enemy or not. Even I felt so amazed by the plot of the series which is why I decided to list down who are the best Jojo characters.
In this article, I will show you my personal top 30 characters in the series. There are a lot of notable characters in the anime and the manga, but I only listed 30 to get the finest ones on the roster. But do note that some fans might need to prepare for a bit of salt, since we all have different opinions when it comes to the characters that we love in the series.
Also, some spoilers are mentioned in the series – you have been warned! So, without further ado, here are the top 30 characters in Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure:
30. Jonathan Joestar (Phantom Blood)
Jonathan Joestar is the main protagonist of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Blood. He is the first Jojo of the series. The son of George Joestar I, Jonathan is an honest, kind, and positive man whose life is fraught with tragedy after meeting his adopted older brother, Dio Brando. As an infant, Jonathan was involved in a carriage accident, resulting in the death of his mother, Mary Joestar.
That same accident indirectly brought Dio Brando into his life because his father, George Joestar I, assumed Dio’s thieving father saved his life and vowed to repay that debt. He met his soon-to-be wife Erina Pendleton after he noticed that she was being bullied by other kids and went to her rescue even though he lacked the strength to fight. Though after the appearance of Dio, Jojo’s life went into a spiral of isolation and despair.
At age 20, he lost everything when Dio gained the stone mask that turns him into a vampire, killed his father, and burned their house to the ground. With the help of Erina, his Ripple master Will A. Zeppeli, and his friend Robert E.O. Speedwagon, he was successful in beating Dio and his vampiric disciples.
Though he would soon die at the end of Phantom Blood during the couple’s trip to America when Dio’s remaining disciple Wang Chan brought Dio’s severed head to the ship. Only Erina survived carrying their unborn child and the baby she rescued during the fire.
29. Muhammad Avdol (Stardust Crusaders)
The Egyptian friend of Joseph Joestar joins the group on their journey to defeat Dio, providing knowledge and guidance about enemy Stand Users and local cultures along the way. He wields the Stand Magician’s Red. Avdol is a great fighter who manages to survive their trip to Egypt from Japan.
Though he would meet his untimely demise when he sacrifices himself to save Polnareff and Iggy from Vanilla Ice. His death was so quick that even Polnareff and Iggy were shocked. After Ice’s defeat, Avdol, along with Iggy, who also died after sustaining grievous injuries from Ice, were seen as souls transcending into heaven.
28. Koichi Hirose (Diamond is Unbreakable)
Koichi is a timid high-school first-year who befriends Josuke Higashikata and then finds himself entangled in the world of Stand users. Though small in stature and does not Stand out too much, he has a huge heart as he was willing to help his friends fight against an unknown murderer in the town of Morioh. He wields the Stand Echoes that take on 3 forms called ACTs. He is last seen in the series at the start of Vento Aureo wherein his luggage was stolen by Giorno Giovanna.
27. Okuyasu Nijimura (Diamond is Unbreakable)
First introduced as an enemy Stand user, Okuyasu would join Josuke and Koichi in stopping the unknown murders happening in the town of Morioh. He would help his brother in hitting people with the arrow to bestow them with Stands if their bodies can handle it because they are trying to find a person that will gain a Stand with the ability to fix their father.
He would ally himself with Josuke to get revenge on the Stand user who wields Red Hot Chili Peppers that killed his brother. He wields the Stand called The Hand.
26. Rohan Kishibe (Diamond is Unbreakable)
A professional mangaka that wields the Stand Heaven’s Door and uses it to turn people into books and reads them for inspiration. Although initially introduced as an antagonist, he would later help Josuke in the search for the killer in the town of Morioh.
He would later become the protagonist on the spinoffs to the main Jojo story, including the series Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan; Rohan at the Louvre, and Rohan Kishibe Go to Gucci.
25. Narancia Ghirga (Vento Aureo)
He is a member of Team Bucciarati and, by extension, Passione. Narancia follows Giorno and Bucciarati in their mission to protect Trish Una due to sharing a similar tragedy as her. He is most known due to the Torture Dance.
He would make it to the fight against Diavolo but dies during the switching of bodies of every person near the coliseum due to the power of the Chariot Requiem. He was killed during the confusion because of the radar abilities of his Stand “Aerosmith”.
24. Guido Mista (Vento Aureo)
Mista is a member of Passione and by extension Bucciarati’s team, who follows Giorno and Bucciarati in their mission to bodyguard Trish Una. He is a gunslinger and Stands User who shoots down his opponents with the help of his Sex Pistols. Mista’s Stand Sex Pistols allows him to redirect bullets shot from his revolver. He alongside Trish, Polnareff, and Giorno would survive in the battle against Diavolo.
At the end of Vento Aureo, Mista is shown working for Giorno, The new Boss of Passione who wanted to help people the same way that the mysterious gang member helped him when he was a child. He sees becoming the boss of Passione and stopping the spread of drugs as the best way to make that dream reality. Mista shared this ideal alongside Bucciarati and the rest of the team, which became their driving force in overthrowing the original Boss of Passione.
23. Lisa Lisa (Battle Tendency)
Elizabeth Joestar is the wife of George Joestar II and the mother of Joseph Joestar. A powerful Ripple master, she acts as a mentor to both Joseph and Caesar Zeppeli. Adopted by Straizo and taught how to use Ripple, she would kill her husband’s killer, A major squad leader in the Royal Air Force. To avoid retaliation upon being seen by another officer during the murder, she along with the help of the Speedwagon foundation faked her death and she ends up in Venice.
She survived the fight against the Pillar Men and would believe that she lost her son in the fight against Kars. She would reveal during Joseph’s “funeral” that she was his mother, though was surprised by Joseph finally appearing alive and well after the battle with Kars. Although young-looking, she is 50 years old during Battle Tendency and would remarry a Hollywood screenwriter in 1948 when she is 60.
22. Josuke Higashikata (Jojolion)
Josuke is a young man afflicted with retrograde amnesia, lacking any memories before being discovered by Yasuho Hirose near the Wall Eyes in Morioh Town. He dedicates himself to discovering his former identity and those originally associated with him. Josuke’s original identity was that of Josefumi Kujo and became his current self after fusing with the man Yoshikage Kira.
Josuke is a Stand User and retains his original identity’s Soft & Wet. Josuke has a diastema between his upper incisors and like all Jojo’s in the series, bears a star-shaped birthmark on his left shoulder. He has two sets of irises, four testicl*s, and two tongues, all joined as one, differing in texture and color.
21. Vanilla Ice (Stardust Crusaders)
Vanilla Ice is the last Vampire created by DIO and one of the penultimate Stand Users the Joestar Group faces upon infiltrating DIO’s Mansion. After the group is split up, he is sent to take out the team consisting of Avdol, Polnareff, and Iggy. Vanilla Ice is a Stand User controlling his void-based Stand ability, Cream, to battle.
Although he is shown near the conclusion of the series, He left an impression on fans and a big one at that because he killed Avdol in but a single moment, killed Iggy, and heavily injuring Polnareff.
20. Pet Shop (Stardust Crusaders)
This vicious falcon is a member of the Egypt 9 Glory Gods, the guardian of DIO’s Mansion, and is a Stand user wielding the ice Stand, Horus. When Iggy inadvertently stumbles upon DIO’s Mansion, Pet Shop attacks him. This falcon is so vicious that when he was introduced, he ate two dogs and almost killed a kid if Iggy didn’t intervene.
He is relentless as he is ruthless as when shown that he even attacks Iggy while underwater. Pet shop met his end when Iggy bites his beak and crushes it when he attempts to shoot ice from close range.
19. Iggy (Stardust Crusaders)
Iggy is a Boston Terrier from the streets of New York. He begrudgingly aids the protagonists on their final expedition to Cairo, Egypt to defeat DIO. Iggy is a Stand user who wields The Fool. He is an antisocial dog with a bad personality. He enjoys chewing on human hair and farting in human faces. His favorite treat is coffee-flavored chewing gum.
He shows high intelligence for a dog especially during the fight with Pet shop and N’Doul. His journey would end in Dio’s mansion as both he and Avdol would be killed by Vanilla Ice and his Stand Cream. After Ice’s defeat, Iggy’s soul, along with Avdol’s, are seen transcending into heaven.
18. Risotto Nero (Vento Aureo)
Risotto Nero is the leader of La Squadra Esecuzioni and sends his squad-mates to battle Team Bucciarati; all to kidnap the Boss’ daughter, Trish Una, as part of their plans to discover her father’s true identity. After all of his squad-mates fall in the course of their mission, Risotto pursues Team Bucciarati himself to the island of Sardinia.
However, there he becomes wound up in a confrontation with Vinegar Doppio on a beach in Costa Smeralda. Risotto is a Stand User and uses the dangerous magnetic abilities of Metallica present within his blood to manipulate the metals in his surroundings. Upon learning that Doppio is a Stand user based on his reaction to the sound of Aerosmith, he attacks him, only to be killed by Narancia’s Aerosmith after using King Crimson.
17. Jolyne Cujoh (Stone Ocean)
Jolyne is the only female “Jojo” to date and the daughter of Jotaro Kujo. Initially an ordinary girl, Jolyne quickly awakens her string-based Stand, Stone Free, during her time in jail. Due to what looks to be an accident, She was sent to Green Dolphin Street Prison not knowing the events that would fall upon her. Jotaro gives her an amulet which had shards of the Stand creating an arrow.
During the events of Stone Ocean, the readers would learn that the “accident” was orchestrated by the Prisons’ very own priest, Enrico Pucci. After the awakening of her Stand, she along with her friends in prison fights to survive in Prison they call an Ocean of stone.
16. Jean Pierre Polnareff (Stardust Crusaders)
The Frenchman Polnareff travels with Jotaro and Joseph to avenge his sister, who was murdered by a man with two right hands. He, like Kakyoin, was introduced as an enemy Stand user because they were under the influence of Dio’s vampiric flesh buds.
After the initial clash, he ends up joining the group although most of his adventures were on the comedic side. His Stand is called Silver Chariot, one of the fastest Stands in Stardust crusaders, wielding a rapier. He avenges the death of his friends Avdol and Iggy at the hands of Vanilla Ice. He tearfully mourns as he sees both their souls going to heaven after the fight. He also survives the fight against Dio and would be helping Jotaro and the Speedwagon foundation in the future.
Before Vento Aureo he went to Italy to find the Stand creating arrows and begins his investigation where he attracts the attention of Diavolo. He attempted to assassinate Diavolo but ultimately failed and sustained critical injuries. He would prove pivotal in Giorno’s fight against Diavolo because of his knowledge of the enemy and the effects of the arrow on a Stand. At the end of Vento Aureo, his soul is still in Coco Jumbo the turtle because his original body died and is with Giorno and Passione.
15. Noriaki Kakyoin (Stardust Crusaders)
Kakyoin is a Japanese student who was brainwashed by DIO during an earlier trip to Egypt and is sent to kill Jotaro Kujo. After being freed from DIO’s influence, he decides to join Jotaro on his quest to Egypt to save Jotaro’s mother, Holy Kujo, and find redemption. He wields the long-ranged Stand Hierophant Green with the ability Emerald Splash.
He is shown to be extremely smart in his fights. He left an impression on fans due to his quick thinking during the fight with Dio. He ultimately met his end at the hands of Dio and his Stand “The World”. Before dying, he would relay The World’s ability to stop time to Joseph by using his emerald splash one last time on the huge clock.
14. Bruno Bucciarati (Vento Aureo)
He is a mobster and the leader of his squad within the powerful Neapolitan gang, Passione. Sent out to track whoever attacked Leaky-Eye Luca and debuting as Giorno Giovanna’s opponent, Bucciarati becomes the first to lend meaningful support to Giorno in his ascension in Passione’s ranks. Bucciarati is also a Stand User who wields Sticky Fingers in battle.
He ends up recruiting Giorno to his group because of their shared view of stopping the drug trade in Italy. He was initially killed by Diavolo during the supposed “return” of Trish Una but continued in the series as an undead with the help of Giorno’s Stand Golden Experience. He would finally pass on to the afterlife during the fight with Diavolo in the Coliseum and would be instrumental in returning everybody to their bodies and getting the arrow to Giorno.
13. Josuke Higashikata (Diamond is Unbreakable)
Josuke is the Main protagonist of Diamond is Unbreakable. He is a high school first-year residing in the town of Morioh. He soon meets Jotaro Kujo, who informs him that he is Joseph Joestar’s illegitimate son. After his grandfather dies, Josuke takes it upon himself to protect his beloved town from malevolent Stand users.
Josuke wields Crazy Diamond, a powerful Stand with the power to repair almost anything. His story ultimately earns him friends, met his father and saved the town from the killer Yoshikage Kira. Due to an incident when he was young, he was helped by a high school student sporting a pompadour hairstyle and would be sporting one himself as he got older. He hates it when people talk badly about his hairstyle.
12. Yoshikage Kira (Diamond is Unbreakable)
Yoshikage Kira is the main antagonist of Diamond is Unbreakable. Unnoticed in Morioh for years and undisturbed all his life, Yoshikage Kira is an abnormal and paraphilic serial killer whose routine is shaken when the ghost of his first victim, Reimi Sugimoto, begs the Joestar Group to look for him and he attracts unwanted attention by killing Shigekiyo Yangu.
Kira is a Stand User and wields the powerful Killer Queen to create deadly bombs. He is an extreme Hand fetishist wherein he would keep a hand of a victim that he finds beautiful and would only dispose of it if it starts to decompose and he would find another victim.
11. Diavolo (Vento Aureo)
Diavolo is the main antagonist of Vento Aureo. He is the boss of Passione and the father of Trish Una. He commands Team Bucciarati to bring her to him whilst keeping her safe from the traitorous Squadra Esecuzioni. It is eventually revealed that he tasked team Bucciarati to bring Trish to him so that he can eliminate his daughter to keep his secrecy.
Diavolo is secretly the alternate personality of Vinegar Doppio and is a Stand User who wields King Crimson in battle. Diavolo’s Stand is King Crimson, an extremely powerful Stand with tremendous physical strength and the ability to erase time up to a 10 seconds time frame as well as predict anything that happens over the following 10 seconds.
Although it has some limitations, King Crimson renders him essentially invincible in a fight as he can either foresee and counter the enemy’s actions or render them meaningless by erasing the timeframe in which they happen. He is killed by Giorno (or more like he is stuck in an infinite loop of death) after his Stand awakens a new power, calling it Gold Experience Requiem.
10. Caesar Zeppeli (Battle Tendency)
Caesar is an Italian Ripple user and disciple of Lisa Lisa. He is the grаndson of Will Anthonio Zeppeli and battles the Pillar Men alongside his allies and teachers to honor his heritage as a Zeppeli. Caesar initially hated Joseph Joestar, finding him uncivilized but during the journey would earn each other’s respect in their tenacity in learning the ripple ability from Lisa Lisa to defeat the Pillar Men.
Caesar Zeppeli was a hot-blooded but focused man, dedicated to the fight against the Pillar Men. In the end, his hot-bloodedness got him killed. He went ahead of the others during the pursuit of Kars and he was ambushed by Wamuu. Though he almost won, during the fight he made a small mistake and was dealt a death blow by the Holy Sandstorm.
Before bleeding out he manages to get Wamuu’s lip piercing which contained the antidote for Joseph’s remaining Wedding ring. Before dying, he used his ripple ability to make a bubble out of his blood containing the Lip piercing along with his headband for Joseph to take before being crushed by a cross-shaped rock.
9. Joseph Joestar (Battle Tendency)
Joseph Joestar is the main protagonist of Battle Tendency, the story that focuses on the origins of the stone mask that ruined the Joestar family in Phantom Blood via Dio. Although he resembles his grandfather Jonathan Joestar, his attitude is entirely different. While Jonathan is more gentlemanly and faces trials head-on, Joseph acts more like a fool to perform tricks and catch his enemies off guard.
He also tends to predict what his enemy will say to him during a fight. I can only explain that after Kars became the ultimate being, Joseph only won due to the sheer luck of events that led to Kars being launched into space where he will remain frozen but conscious for all of the time. He was known to fight without thinking too much and just to act at the moment. He would also lose his arm in the fight with Kars. He would later crash his funeral and shock everyone that he married Suzie Q, Lisa’s maid.
In Stardust Crusaders he was pivotal in tracking down Dio to stop him and save his daughter Holy Kujo from her Stand. Although very much older, he also gains a Stand named Hermit Purple. He is still known as a trickster as when he pranked the Speedwagon employees and Jotaro that he became a vampire at the end of Stardust Crusader even though everyone was scared that he died.
In Diamond is Unbreakable, Joseph is much older and also had a son with a college student named Tomoko Higashikata when he was 62. Though he would only learn about the child when Josuke is 16. He would arrive in Morioh to meet Josuke and help him. In the end, he adopts a baby found on the roadside and is a Stand user with the ability to turn invisible named Achtung Baby.
8. Kars (Battle Tendency)
Kars is the leader of the Pillar Men and the designer of the Stone Mask. His goal is to evolve further to become immune to the sun’s rays, and thus he seeks the Red Stone of Aja to empower his Masks, battling the Ripple users for its possession. He is ranked 1st out of all the Pillar Men. Unlike Wamuu who fought and respected warriors who fight him, Kars is shown to have no honor even cheating on the fight against Lisa Lisa even though he has the advantage of being a Pillar Man. He is defeated by Joseph Joestar at the end of Battle Tendency to remain space-conscious but frozen.
7. Dio Brando (Stardust Crusaders)
The most well-known villain of the series, Dio has terrorized the Joestar bloodline since Phantom Blood to Stardust Crusaders. Even though he died, Enrico Pucci was determined to achieve Dio’s version of heaven. Starting as a kid who was adopted by the Joestar family, he tormented Jonathan Joestar’s life by killing his dog, getting other kids to bully him, and even stole Erina’s first kiss (the girl whom Jonathan likes).
He would also become a vampire due to the stone mask, killing George Joestar, and burning their home. At the end of Phantom Blood, He was successful in killing Jonathan even taking his body though he would be buried under the sea for years until…
In Stardust Crusaders, a group of fishermen accidentally released him from his watery grave. After his release, he would end up getting a Japanese woman pregnant (Giorno), find Enya the Hag (who gave him the Stand with the arrow), and meet Enrico Pucci. He is defeated by Jotaro in Egypt and his remains would be disintegrated by the rising sun in the Sahara desert. His Stand is The World which could stop time for 9 seconds.
6. Funny Valentine (Steel Ball Run)
He is the Main antagonist of Steel Ball Run. Funny Valentine is the 23rd President of the United States and the true mastermind behind the Steel Ball Run race. He watches the competition from behind the curtains and hopes to gather the Saint’s Corpse to use the holy relic to further the United States of America’s interests. Valentine is a Stand User, wielding his Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap and its dimensional abilities to travel across parallel universes.
5. Gyro Zeppeli (Steel Ball Run)
Gyro is a master of the Spin hailing from the Kingdom of Naples. He joins the Steel Ball Run race to win amnesty for a child he is assigned to execute. His mastery of the Spin later allows him access to Ball Breaker. He is befriended by the paraplegic Johnny Joestar before the race starts. He would later teach Johnny the spin giving him access to his Stand Tusk.
His Stand, Ball Breaker, proved to be powerful enough to injure Funny Valentine though not enough to kill him as he died from his injuries sustained in the fight. Before dying, Gyro gives his last lesson to Johnny allowing Tusk to reach ACT 4 that allowed him to beat Valentine. His spirit then appears and says farewell to his friend and ascends to heaven.
4. Johnny Joestar (Steel Ball Run)
A former horse-racing prodigy turned paraplegic, Johnny joins the SBR race to find out the secret behind Gyro Zeppeli’s Steel Balls as they’re the only thing capable of healing his legs. Throughout the race, Johnny becomes both a Spin User and a Stand User when he acquires Tusk.
Although he didn’t get to finish the race, he stopped Funny Valentine from using the Saint’s Corpse, a holy relic to further the United States of America’s interests. He would meet his wife on a ship to Naples when he was to honor his friend by delivering his corpse to his family.
3. Jotaro Kujo (Stardust Crusaders)
First of all, I apologize for not placing Jotaro on the top list. But, top 1 and 2 have overpowered Stands that are way stronger, and cooler, than Jotaro’s. Jotaro Kujo is the main protagonist of Stardust Crusaders and is the most popular character ever since his debut. Jotaro’s story started when went on a journey to Egypt with his grandfather to save his mother Holy Kujo.
Shown to be a delinquent and very antisocial.
He gains the Stand Star, Platinum which is a super-strong, fast, and precise close-range Stand. During his journey, he would grow more fond of his allies and would even mourn those who died. This is more evident in Diamond is Unbreakable as he still carries around and looks at the photo of his group. He is successful in finally killing DIO at the end of Stardust Crusaders. Jotaro would then finish his studies and earn a Ph.D. in Marine Biology, marry an Italian-American woman and have a daughter named Jolyne.
He would later appear in Diamond is Unbreakable as a Marine Biologist looking for an uncle he never knew he had (Josuke). He would be instrumental in defeating Yoshikage Kira, The killer in the town of Morioh. He was also the one who sent Koichi to search for Haruno Shiobana (later changed his name to Giorno Giovanna) in Vento Aureo.
He is last seen in Stone Ocean where he was the target of Enrico Pucci who imprisoned his daughter to lure him out. It turns out that Pucci’s Stand ability could pull out his memory disc that contained Dio’s Journal in creating his version of heaven. He and most of Jolyne’s allies were killed by Enrico with his evolved Stand, Made in Heaven. He and DIO Brando are the most well-known character of the JoJo franchise.
2. Enrico Pucci (Stone Ocean)
A loyal follower and friend of DIO, he implements a plan long formulated by DIO to “achieve heaven”. Pucci is a Stand User and manipulates the mind and soul through his Stand, Whitesnake. He is the main antagonist of Stone Ocean and the mastermind behind Jolyne’s Imprisonment.
When his Stand evolves into Made in Heaven, he killed most of the characters except for Emporio. He is killed by Emporio by Oxygen Poisoning. His Stand made in Heaven is so powerful that he can accelerate time and even Reset the universe.
1. Giorno Giovanna (Vento Aureo)
Giorno is the illegitimate son of DIO, conceived with Jonathan Joestar’s stolen body. He is introduced as Haruno Shiobana. He speaks of his intention to join the powerful gang Passione and his dream of becoming a “Gang-Star”. Giorno is a natural-born Stand User wielding the life-giving Gold Experience in battle. He joins Bucciarati’s group in Passione to stop the drug trade.
His Stand is the Gold Experience Requiem. It is by far the strongest Stand in series, with its overpowered ability to return to “zero”, like nothing. The Stand is also shown to have a consciousness of its own and acts as a passive Stand, which means that it can activate its abilities even without Giorno’s knowledge. This in turn would mean that he is beyond invincible and is not affected by any attacks because his Stand returns everything to zero. At the end of the series, he is now the boss of Passione and is acting to stop the drug trade of the group that he got into.
