How to Make Soap Frosting for Bath Bombs
1. Combine whipped soap base, glycerin, and 5-10 drop essential oil in a mixing bowl on low speed until fluffy (about one minute).
2. Fold the cornstarch into the mixture, and beat on low for 30 seconds.
3. Chop the melt and pour soap base into small pieces, and microwave for 30-second intervals, stirring each time, until melted.
Let the soap base cool for one minute.
5. Mix together all ingredients: soap base, whipped soap mixture, mica powder, polysorbate 80, and cosmetic glitter, if desired, on high speed for one minute, or until stiff peaks form, like a meringue.
Tip: You can start with small amounts of colorant and glitter and add more until you reach the desired levels!
Note: If the mixture isn’t stiff enough, mix in more cornstarch.
7. Fit a frosting bag with a larger tip than you would normally use for cupcakes since the soap mixture is very thick.
Fill the piping bag with the whipped soap frosting mixture.
9. Apply the soap frosting just like cake frosting on a regular cupcake. But work quickly because it’s easier to use right away!
Sprinkle a pinch of glitter on top for some extra sparkle!
10. Let the frosted bath bomb cupcakes dry and harden at room temperature for 24 hours.
Common Questions
Does melt and pour soap need to cure?
Unlike cold process soap, melt and pour soap doesn’t need to cure. It just needs to cool and harden because it has already gone through the curing process. It’s perfect for soap making beginners and requires no wait time!
Do you need meringue powder for bath bomb frosting?
You can make frosting for bath bombs with a lot of different recipes, but this one doesn’t use meringue powder. Meringue powder, when used, helps stiffen and whip a recipe. It’s not necessary in this one because of the other ingredients used.
